2026 Sustainable Action Plan

New Taipei City Wanjinshi Marathon
Running Toward a Low-Carbon Coastal Race

Through carbon footprint verification, reduction strategies, circular resources, sport equity, and carbon offsetting, the event protects race quality, runner experience, and environmental responsibility.

44.83% 2030 carbon reduction target
67% 2040 carbon reduction target
2050 Low-carbon sustainability pathway

Sustainable Vision

Reduce first, offset next, and keep race quality aligned with environmental responsibility.

Since 2023, the Wanjinshi Marathon has followed ISO 14067 and road race carbon footprint product category rules to identify emissions across each stage of the event, then refine reduction strategies through ongoing review.

SDG 5 Gender Equality

Advancing sport equity in 2026 with a non-binary gender category.

New Taipei City defines 2026 as the Wanjinshi Marathon's first year of sport equity. Beyond competition and sustainability, the registration system and race services highlight inclusion, diversity, and participation for all.

Women's Places500 additional women-only slots are added to the challenge marathon.
Non-Binary CategoryThe registration system introduces a dedicated non-binary gender option.
Visually Impaired PacersVisually impaired pacers are added for the challenge marathon.

Green Certification

Green Certification Milestones

From carbon footprint verification to event sustainability management and carbon neutrality statements, the race uses international standards to examine its sustainability practices.

2023ISO 14067, ISO 20121, and the Council for Responsible Sport Silver Certification.
2024Continued ISO 14067 product carbon footprint verification.
2025The world's first marathon event to complete an ISO 14068-1 carbon neutrality verification statement.
2026Continued ISO 14067 verification and advanced low-carbon race operations.

Carbon Footprint

2023-2026 Carbon Footprint Results

Total race emissions have continued to decline through low-carbon materials, local procurement, shuttle services, low-carbon transport, and resource reuse.

2023 95,502.17 kgCO2e / 0.35 kgCO2e-pkm
2024 86,770.59 kgCO2e / 0.31 kgCO2e-pkm
2025 80,913.74 kgCO2e / 0.28 kgCO2e-pkm
2026 77,825.85 kgCO2e / 0.247 kgCO2e-pkm

Reduction Strategy

Seven Key Carbon Reduction Strategies

From materials, design, transport, procurement, energy, circularity, and education, the race builds a low-carbon management approach that can keep improving.

Action Plan

Reduction Action Plan

Improvement actions are built around major emission sources so aid stations, awards, venue setup, energy, transport, waste, and medical services can keep reducing emissions.

Aid Station ServicesLow-carbon materials, recycled materials, local procurement, and nearby supply.
Shirts and AwardsRecycled fibers, low-carbon materials, and circular material design.
Venue and EnergyRecyclable materials, accurate usage records, and low-carbon power supply.
Transport and ShuttlesElectric transport, centralized shuttles, and passenger counts.
Waste ManagementTruck-by-truck weighing, waste sorting, and resource recycling.
Medical and Bag CheckOptimized patrol routes, with bag-check bags reused as New Taipei City designated trash bags.
